چکیده

Wind turbines produce low frequency sounds, but it has not been shown this is a major factor contributing to annoyance. Sound from wind turbines involves several sound production mechanisms related to different interactions between the turbine blades and the air. Low frequency sound is predominantly the result of the displacement of air by a blade and of turbulence at the blade surface. An important contribution to the low frequency part of the sound spectrum may be the result of the sudden variation in air flow the blade encounters when it passes the tower: the angle of attack of the incoming air suddenly deviates from the angle that is optimized for the mean flow. This effect probably has not been considered important as the blade passing frequency is of the order of one hertz where human hearing is very insensitive. This argument however obscures a very relevant effect: the low blade passing frequency modulates well audible, higher frequency sounds and thus creates periodic sound. This effect is stronger at night because in a stable atmosphere there is a greater difference between rotor averaged and near-tower wind speed. Measurements have shown that more turbines can interact to further amplify this effect. The effect is confirmed by residents near wind turbines who mention the same common observation: often late in the afternoon or in the evening the turbine sound changes to a more 'clapping' or 'beating' sound, the rhythm in agreement with the blade passing frequency. It is clear from the observations that this is associated to a change to a higher atmospheric stability. The increased annoyance has not been investigated as such, although there are indications from literature this effect is relevant. It is of increasing relevance as the effect is stronger for modern (that is: tall) wind turbines. Introduction Modern wind turbines have electric power outputs up to 2 MW (increasing now to 5 MW) and have turbine heights of 80 to 100 meters (increasing to 120 m). In the European Union, producing 74% of the wind power in the world, by the end of 2002 23 GW has been installed, and this should increase to the European target of 40 GW for 2010, but already a capacity of 90 GW has been forecasted for that year [1]. As a result of this growth an increasing number of people are living near (projected) wind parks and have reason to inquire and …

Robust Identification of Smart Foam Using Set Mem-bership Estimation in A Model Error Modeling Frame-work

The aim of this paper is robust identification of smart foam, as an electroacoustic transducer, considering unmodeled dynamics due to nonlinearities in behaviour at low frequencies and measurement noise at high frequencies as existent uncertainties. Set membership estimation combined with model error modelling technique is used where the approach is based on worst case scenario with unknown but...

Simulation and Experimental Study of Vibration and Noise of Pure Electric Bus Transmission based on Finite Element and Boundary Element Methods

Since the electric motor of pure electric vehicle replaced the engine, the "masking effect" disappears, and the problem of vibration and noise of the transmission becomes prominent. This is generated during the gear meshing and is transmitted to the housing through the shaft and bearing. Thereby, radiation noise of the housing are generated. The prediction and analysis...

بررسی اثر صدای فرکانس کم بر عملکرد ذهنی

Background and Purpose: Although the evolution of industrial systems toward digital technologies decreased the exposure to high levels of noise, it has created some problems encountered with low level and provoking noise (low frequency noise). In the present work, the mental performance of students exposed to low frequency and reference noises at low and high levels (45 & 65 dB) were studied....

Vibration and Noise Reduction Optimization Design of Mine Chute with Foam Aluminum Laminated Structure

The mining chute is an important equipment in the process of coal transportation and coal screening preparation. During the working process, the mining chute will generate a lot of vibration and noise because of constantly friction and impact of gangue and coal blocks. In order to reduce the vibration and noise during the operation of the chute, a new type of foam aluminum laminated structure i...

A New Ultra-Wideband Low Noise Amplifier With Continuous Gain Control

This paper presents a new variable gain low noise amplifier (VG-LNA) for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The proposed VG-LNA uses a common-source (CS) with a shunt-shunt active feedback as an input stage to realize input matching and partial noise cancelling. An output stage consists of a gain-boosted CS cascode and a gain control circuit that moves the high resonant frequency to higher freq...

Immediate effect of whole body vibration on trunk proprioception in non-specific chronic low back pain

Introduction: The available data indicate that there is a relationship between proprioception deficit and low back pain. For this reason, proprioception exercises are usually part of the rehabilitation protocols for these patients. Previous studies revealed that whole body vibration (WBV) can improve muscle performance and proprioception. The aim of this study was to investigate effect of WBV o...
